Biography of Rod Taylor
Rod Taylor was born and raised in Jamaica, in the Trenchtown ghettos,
south of the Rema neighborhood, then to the Jungle district he left at
political riots at the end of the 1970s.
"My passion for music dates back to when I was a kid.
I loved music and I loved singing on instrumental versions.
With my friends we sang on the B side of the 45 T Juke Box
As soon as we had 5 pence we put them in the Juke box
and we toasted on the Dub version.
That's how I became a singer.
I started with Sound Systems such as
President Resident, T ipatone & Kenyatta "
In 1975 Rod participates in a "springboard" of young musicians organized in
"Bohemia Club", led by Mr. Hamilton, and where usually occurred
the Mighty Titans band, with Bertram "Ranchie" McClean.
Rod performs a piece of Phil Phillips "Sea of Love", piece made popular
in Jamaica by the Heptones Version, and wins the contest.
From there he meets a lot of people in fl uents in the music world,
then works with some of them, such as Mickael Rose,
Sugar Minott and especially producer Ossie Hibbert.
"He was there, he saw my show, he liked it, he came to talk to me and told me
that it was great, that he liked what I was doing and that he wanted me to come
save some tracks for him at Channel One "
The first 45 T that he records is "Bad Man" "Comes and Goes"
with Sly & Robbie and Hibbert on the keyboard.
This piece makes Rod one of the best discoveries of the moment.
But what really makes his career start is his duet with Dillinger
"Nuh Chuck it", with Buster (Winston Riley's brother) at the rhytlnnique.
The songs were then chained with Barry Brown, Johnny Lee, Sugar Minott,
Prince Far 1, Prince Hammer, Soul syndicate (with Earl Chinna Smith,) Mikey Dread,
Earl Sixteen, Eddy Fizroy, Homson Linval T, Michael Campbell and many others ..
Since 93, Rod Vit between Jamaica, England and France.
In London, he collaborates with Robert Tribulation for the recording of 2 albums.
He goes on an album with Jah Warrior, recorded in 2000.
in Paris, he signs at 'Patate Records' which distributes a compilation of his hits.
At the same time Rod Taylor multiplies collaborations in studio, especially on the album
from U Roy "NoW", and sound system performances across Europe.
in 2001, he recorded the album
"Blackman History" with Artikal Band, the musicians
who also accompany him on stage since 1999.
